New Song Urban Ministries

Many different individuals - black and white, affluent and poor, urban and suburban - are working closely together to break down barriers across geography, race, class and culture and to rebuild the Sandtown community, presenting a model that shows incredible possibilities for hope and change.

bullet New Song Community Learning Center
New Song Center - Providing educational opportunities for Sandtown children and youth since 1991. Preschool (ages 3-4) and after-school programs; scholarship programs. New Song Academy opened in September 1994 and became a K-8 public school in 1997 under the New Schools Initiative.

bullet Eden Jobs and Economic Development
EDEN Jobs - Jobs and economic development. Job development and placement program for unemployed Sandtown residents beginning in 1994. Almost 2000 placements to date. In 2008 we kicked off the economic development component with the opening of Gerry's Goods. Read more about Gerry's on their website here.

bullet Sandtown Habitat for Humanity
Sandtown Habitat for Humanity - Providing houses for homeownership for low and very low income families in Sandtown.

bullet New Song Family Health Center
We are excited to re-introduce New Song's Health Cooperative, a project of our health ministry that has just changed its walk-in hours from Wednesday evenings to Sunday afternoons. The health cooperative is an outreach ministry that complements the comprehensive primary care center which has been launched by People's Community Health Center in our 1300 N. Fulton Avenue facility.

Church-Based

Nothing other than the community of God's people is capable of affirming the dignity of the poor and enabling them to meet their own needs. It is practically impossible to do effective wholistic ministry apart from the local church. A nurturing community of faith can best provide the thrusts of evangelism, discipleship, spiritual accountability, and relationship by which disciples grow in their walk with God.
